A Biography of Maytor James Healy 1864-1939

At the time this photo was taken, Maytor James would have been between 11 and 16 years old.   His father Maytor was between 58 and 63 years and still working below ground in the Quincy mines.   Maytor Sr.  as a "miner" worked under the contract system, chose his own men in groups of three, bid on each job and was paid according to the quantity of copper extracted from the mines over a period of time.   It is probable that Maytor James worked below ground with his father carrying coal from below ground, up ladders to the outside.  




Anna Maud Fleming  1873-1929
Maytor James Healy married Anna Maud Fleming on January 25, 1887 in Blaine,  Idaho.   Anna was living in Hailey, Alturas, Idaho with her parents at the time of their marriage.  



On January 13, 1887, Maytor James Healy began working as a hostler for the Central Pacific rail road at Promontory.   Twelve days later he married Anna Maud Fleming from Hailey, Alturas, Idaho.

On November 3rd, 1898, Maytor James Healy was promoted to Main Line Engine man by the Central Pacific rail road in Ogden, Utah

On December 12, 1906, Maytor and Maud Healy had a son who they named Maytor James Healy.   He was born at 3468 Washington Avenue in Ogden Utah.   








May 26, 1912,  Maytor's brother Daniel Healy dies in Leadville, Colorado





Dorothea Madeline Healy, 14 July 1912 - 3 August 1993

Maytor and Maud's last child was born on July 14, 1912 in Ogden, Utah.   They named her Dorothea Madeline Healy.

In 1915 Maytor was promoted to passenger service for the Central Pacific rail road line in Ogden Utah

On Thursday, June 29, 1916, Anna Maud and her ten year old son, Maytor Jame left Ogden by train for a two-week visit with her daughter Mrs. Frank E. Hickey in Roseville California and other relatives in San Francisco.

Maytor's daughter, Gail Healy enlisted in the Nurses' Reserve with a number of other Ogden Utah girls and is waiting for her call of duty from the government.

The Maytor James Healy House under quarantine for Small Pox, robbed by burglar.   The Ogden Standard-Examiner, June 3, 1921, Ogden, Weber, Utah.   

Maytor and his wife, Maud were living at 114 Twenty-Seventh St. in Ogden in 1921.    At 3:00 in the morning on June 3rd, Maud woke Maytor from sleep, telling him there was a man in the house.    Maytor chased the burglar from the house but he escaped with $5 from the wallet of Maytor's trousers. 

It was discovered the robber had also stolen from the adjoining neighbor who were under quarantine due to the Small Pox disease.

Death of Belle Healy Searle,  Ogden Standard Examiner, August 10, 1921


Belle Healy Searle, daughter of Maytor James Healy and Anna Maud Fleming, died 1921,  she is buried in the Ogden City Cemetery.

Ann Maude Fleming Obituary, February 3 1929, The Salt Lake Tribune,  Maude died in Ogden Utah at age 55 years.  She is buried in the Ogden City Cemetery, Plot F-3-10-2E



Maud Healy's funeral was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ogden, Utah




Maud Fleming Healy died in Ogden, Utah on February 3, 1929.   She is buried in the Ogden City Cemetery.

In April of 1930 Maytor Healy lived in this home on Gramercy Avenue in Ogden with his son, Maytor James Jr. age 23 , and his youngest daughters Kathryn age 20 and Dorothea age 17.    Maytor was working as an Engineer for the Railroad, Maytor James Jr. worked construction as a rodman, Katie was a stenographer for a Firearms company, and Dorothea was attending high school.   


Between 1931 and 1932 Maytor married Sarah Florence Hartman, the
widower of Daniel Rowland.   After their marriage they moved to her Ogden home on Madison Avenue.

Maytor retired from the Southern Pacific rail road lines west of Ogden after completing fourty-seven years of service on October 1, 1934.   He was 69 years of age.

Maytor James Healy was buried next to his wife, Anna Maud Fleming and two daughters,  in the Ogden City Cemetery in April, 1939.
