The St. Joseph Cemetery in Hancock, Michigan was maintained by the local Roman Catholic parishes in Hancock. In the 1970s the local parishes were consolidated into one parish and they wanted to build a new church. The site chosen for the new building was on top of the St. Joseph Cemetery. The families of those buried were contacted ahead of the construction to let them know of the plans and have them removed their family to different area cemeteries. The remaining grave markers were then removed, the information was recorded, then they were buried in a trench at the site of the present day church.

Today there are 832 people buried under the current parking lot and church. There are several "indexes" for the cemetery on the internet but they are not all the same and several names are missing (my ancestors do not appear). The index linked below is to the Church of the Resurrection's original records. The map linked below is the official survey map as well.
